Lankshear and Knobel Response

Class Readings

Lankshear and Knobel had an interesting article; however, I sometimes get fed up with reading about the ‘new’. Every idea and program keeps having new things added to it. I understand we are learning better ways to teach and think about teaching, yet it seems to me to become over kill. It is just this way to blame something for the failing present system. I think the issue is deeper then changing mindsets and practices. It is the way learning is viewed in society. Learning is associated with being apart of society and being able to change it. I think learning is about growing more as a person. I think teachers should focus on the students and their needs. If we do that then there will be no need to change our practices to help students who are not doing well. I suggest that if students’ comprehension of the subject matter is always considered, then every student should be learning. Each teaching practice will always being changing and growing to accommodate for each different student. Society demands different things from each different person, so as a teacher we need to look at what each student is trying to accomplish. I believe teachers need to be extremely good problem solvers and well aware of problems and issues in society. They need to see how society is impacting each classroom and figure out ways to help the students see how to deal with it. Teachers should be independent thinkers, who are not easily persuaded by the newest study’s findings. Everyone has different needs and views, so one mindset will not work for everyone. Teachers need to have an open mind to all new ideas, yet maintain their students’ interests at heart. A teacher can learn every new skill there is for teaching but still never really reach their students. A teacher who can relate to students according to their own needs will be successful.
